Floyd Mayweather was reluctant to talk about the debate around the boxing controversy involving Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. On April 20, ‘King Ry’ surprised the boxing world by defeating Haney via majority decision. However, a series of unfortunate events have overshadowed Garcia’s iconic win. Weight-miss and doping violations stand at the forefront.

After the boxing bout, Garcia was found to have failed a drug test for Ostarine. This is a banned substance, and the results were later verified through a B-sample that yielded the same outcome. In the past year, Floyd Mayweather and Garcia have become good friends. As such, hosts of Come and Talk 2 Me received an answer from Mayweather about Garcia’s situation.

I just know I was always a clean fighter. I can't speak for nobody else. Can't really speak for nobody else.

The former champion was also asked about whether he instructed KingRy not to make weight against Haney. Many believed Mayweather must have played a part in Garcia missing weight on purpose. However, Mayweather gave a diplomatic answer, which did not jeopardize himself or Garcia.

Furthermore, instead of addressing the question directly, he shifted the focus. Mayweather remarked how he introduced the concept of random testing when other legendary boxers did not. Floyd Mayweather also stated that he is not commenting on the NYSAC situation to avoid a lawsuit.

Ryan Garcia awaits the NYSAC hearing

Garcia has consistently maintained his innocence regarding his boxing contest against Haney. However, the young boxer’s two drug screenings came back positive for Ostarine, which has brought his innocence into question. As such, he is expected to encounter serious repercussions in the coming months.

The boxing journalist Dan Rafael mentioned that Garcia is set to face a New York State Athletic Commission hearing during the summer. In addition, Garcia’s victory over Haney might be stripped, with a suspension and a fine being imposed as penalties. This will directly affect his professional boxing career.

Furthermore, Garcia has named a number of well-known rivals for his upcoming boxing bout despite his failed drug test. While details are yet to be solidified, it appears he is particularly keen on taking on Errol Spence Jr., who is returning from a defeat to Terence Crawford in July 2023.
