The Barclays Center in New York City recently hosted a major boxing event. WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis defended his title against Lamont Roach in the main bout. However, the match stirred considerable controversy within the boxing community. Notably, WBA super welterweight champion Terence Crawford even referenced past controversies during Davis’ fight.

In the ninth round of the fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach, ‘Tank’ appeared to take a knee. However, the referee did not award points to Roach for this buzzing moment. This decision angered several individuals, including Terence Crawford. In response, Crawford took to his social media to reference a past instance involving Floyd Mayweather, where taking a knee resulted in a point deduction.

Some of yall need to watch Mayweather vs Hernandez and see Mayweather take a knee because he hurt his hand, and it was called a knock down and not from a punch either.

In 2001, Floyd Mayweather was an emerging superstar in the world of professional boxing, holding the title of WBC super featherweight champion. Alongside his rising career, Mayweather often drew attention for his controversial moments. One notable incident occurred during his fight against Carlos Hernandez when, in the sixth round, Mayweather took a knee. As a result, Hernandez was awarded additional points.

Unlike the ‘Money’ Mayweather moment, Lamont Roach did not receive any extra points in his fight. Interestingly, neither Terence Crawford nor Gervonta Davis has a strong rapport with each other. Recently, ‘Tank’ Davis aimed some verbal jabs at the WBA super welterweight champion. Additionally, Crawford is not the only boxer who has expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the Davis vs. Roach fight.

Ryan Garcia believes the outcome of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight paints a bad picture about boxing

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is widely regarded as one of the top professional boxers in the world. Throughout his career, the WBA lightweight champion has defeated numerous elite boxers, enhancing his impressive reputation. In most of his fights, Davis has decisively overpowered his opponents, winning by knockout. Notably, fans and spectators eagerly anticipate such thrilling performances in boxing.

Many individuals believe that ‘Tank’ did not deserve a draw against Lamont Roach. Interestingly, his former rival, Ryan Garcia, shared his thoughts on the situation. Like many others, Garcia was quite displeased with the judges’ decision to call the match a draw. He also pointed out how such decisions can negatively impact the sport of boxing overall.

Lamont won that… Not calling that knockdown is the most wild thing I ever seen in boxing, that type of stuff makes boxing look bad…

Speaking of their relationship, even Ryan Garcia and ‘Tank’ do not have a good relationship with each other. Interestingly, the WBA lightweight champion is the only fighter to have given Garcia a loss in his otherwise impressive boxing career. This might explain why ‘KingRy’ has been critical of Davis’ recent fight.
