Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo has been sued by three individual users of cryptocurrency exchange platform, Binance. The three users filed a class-action lawsuit against the footballer, after suffering losses while purchasing unregistered securities sold by the firm.

In June 2022, Ronaldo signed a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal with the China-based crypto exchange platform, Binance. The company which started operations back in 2017, was already under a series of investigations being conducted by the governments of the USA and UK, on charges of money laundering and tax offenses. The company recently pleaded guilty to all those charges and claimed to have engaged in unlicensed transfers.

Ronaldo was signed by Binance to promote its services and appear in commercial advertising. All three plaintiffs claimed to have suffered losses after they invested in the unregistered securities, following Ronaldo’s endorsement of the company’s services. The plaintiffs also claimed that Ronaldo had prior knowledge of the regulations that Binance had violated, but chose not to inform his social media followers about the risks involved.
