On the 14th of January, Tottenham Hotspur dominated Manchester United at Old Trafford, but could only get away with a draw. Rasmus Hojlund, Richarlison, Marcus Rashford, and Rodrigo Bentancur ensured both teams left with only one point. As such, Gary Neville had quite the compliment for Spurs’ performance this season
Ange Postecoglou was without the services of players like Son Hueng-min, James Maddison, Pape Sarr, Dejan Kulusevski, and Yves Bissouma for the match, but still put up a good attacking display. Impressed by them, Gary Neville had high hopes for the Lilywhites.
Neville claimed Spurs were good enough to be in the top 3, ahead of Liverpool and London rivals Arsenal. He further said that Spurs should focus on the league, believing they do not need a trophy for their magnificent season.
If they keep their players fit, they are a certainty to finish in the top four and I think they can get to second and third.Gary Neville on Sky Sports
Spurs aren’t in any European competitions due to their poor performance in the previous season, finishing 8th in the league. Under Postecoglou, they have now started to play a brand new, exciting form of football which has made fans happy. They were top in the league for some time but dropped down after an injury crisis. Now they are 5th, tied on points with the Gunners but have a lower goal difference.
Fans mock Gary Neville for terrible prediction
Ever since Gary Nevile walked into the world of punditry, he has been accused of bias. Many fans have called out how he always downplays the achievements of clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal but gives importance to his former club Manchester United.
When he once again said Spurs were better than Arsenal and Liverpool, fans tore into him. Many called out his bias yet again. Some called his opinion a “stinker,” while others did not even take him seriously. Some called him bitter as well, for being jealous of Liverpool’s success. One even recalled his tenure as manager of Valencia, saying this was the man making the opinion.
Check out their reactions:
Liverpool have been top of the league for a few weeks with a two-point lead over Manchester City. Arsenal on the other hand are 4th, tied on points with Spurs but have a game in hand.
