2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Ireland vs Azerbaijan Live Stream, Preview and Prediction
Ireland take on Azerbaijan in their fourth Group A match for the 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign on Saturday 4th September.
Ireland lost their last qualifier match 2-1 to Portugal. Teenager Gavin Banazu saved Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty in the 15th minute and denied him the chance to break Ali Daei’s all time top scorer in men’s international football. John Egan gave his side the lead at half-time.
But Cristiano Ronaldo showed his experience and his goal scoring instinct when he scored two goals in 89th and 96th minutes respectively , and not only registering his 110th and 111th international goals but also broke Irish hearts and handed them their third loss of the World Cup Qualifying campaign.
Ireland vs Azerbaijan: Preview
Both sides are yet to register a point in Group A after losing their first three games respectively.
It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this matchup.
Ireland was unfortunate to have lost their opening three games with a one goal deficit.
Even after putting in decent performances it just hasn’t clicked for Ireland yet and as a result have allot of ground to cover if the group and in their quest to securing a place at next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Their 1-0 loss at home to Luxembourg was the fifth game in a row without a win on home soil.
The visitors are more or less the same sitting bottom of the group and having lost all their opening three games, losing the last two games 2-1 against Serbia and Luxembourg.
It was Mica Pinto and Gerson Rodrigues who gave Luxembourg the lead before Emin Mahmudov pulled one back for his side but it was not enough in the end.
Azerbaijan has just won one of their last 26 away games, giving Irish the perfect chance to first win in six games when they face them on Saturday.
