2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Serbia vs Azerbaijan Live Stream, Preview and Prediction

Group A leaders Serbia welcome bottom side Azerbaijan to Rajko Mitic Stadium on Tuesday 12th October. Still unbeaten in the group and leading Portugal by just a point a win against Azerbaijan is a must for Serbia in their hopes of automatic qualification for the World Cup in Qatar next year.

Serbia have been impressive in the qualifying campaign so far with 4 wins and 2 draws in the six games played. Serbia edged past Luxembourg in their last game with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal scored by Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic in the first half but a great defensive was also needed in the second half to make sure the three points were secured at the end. A win against Azerbaijan will set a great last match against 2016 Euro winners Portugal.

However Dragon Stojkovic men have played a game extra with Portugal set to face Luxembourg at home. Serbia’s unbeaten run is what has got them to the top and a playoff spot is almost confirmed with Luxembourg trailing them by 8 points.

The visitors, Azerbaijan are bottom and have nothing to play for but pride as not much was expected from FIFA’s 117th ranked nation. Azerbaijan have just one point to show for from their six games played. They were brushed away by Ireland in their last game 3-0. A brace from Callum Robinson and 90th minute strike from Chiedozie Ogbene was enough for the Irish to register their first win of the qualifying campaign. Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 81st strike proved decisive in a 2-1 for Serbians the last time these two side met back in March.

Serbia will host Azerbaijan at the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Belgrade, Serbia. It was previously know as Red Star Stadium. It has a total capacity of 53,000.
