Vietnam suffered their fourth loss in as many games after losing 3-1 to Oman in the last game. Nguyen Tien Linh gave Vietnam the lead just minutes before halftime. However the lead lasted just five minutes as Oman drew level in first half added time as Issam Al Sabhi dispatched his shot into the top left corner following a freekick. Oman were 2-1 up after just four minutes into the second half through Mohsin Al Khaldi. It went from bad to worse for Vietnam as Do Duy Manh conceded a penalty after he fouled Jameel Al Yahmadi. Salaah Al-Yahyaei successfully converted the spot kick and taking the game out of Vietnam’s reach.

Japan recorded an important victory against Australia in their last game. Ao Tanaka gave Japanese the lead inside 10 minutes and as a result saw them leading at halftime. However Australia pulled level on the 70th minute mark through Ajdin Hrustic. However Japan forced an own goal through as Takuma Asano’s shot hit the crossbar and then took a touch off Aziz Behich’s boot as the defender knew little about it and went in. Japan are still in contention for the qualifying places as they’re level on points with Oman and a win against Vietnam would take them to 9 points.
