Germany defeated the Netherlands 2-1 to win their second world championship. 16 years later, Germany defeated Argentina 1-0 to capture their third world championship.
24 years later, Germany defeated the same opponent with the same score to win their fourth and last world championship. Germany won the FIFA World Cup 2018 by beating Argentina 1-0 to claim their fourth championship.
1. Brazil (5) –
Brazil boasts the most FIFA world cup championship trophies. They have so far claimed the championship five times. The only team to feature in all 21 World Cups in Brazil. In 1958, Brazil won its first World Cup. Their following three championships were won in 1962, 1970, and 1994. Brazil defeated Germany in the championship match to win their last World Cup in 2002.
Brazil defeated Sweden 5-2 in the 1958 championship match. Brazil had never previously won the World Cup. Four years later, in 1962, Brazil also went on to win the following world championship. They defeated Czechoslovakia 3-1 to win their second world championship.
1970 was Brazil’s next World Cup triumph. Brazil defeated Italy 4-1 to claim their third world championship. Brazil’s subsequent world championship had to wait 24 years. In the 1994 finale, they defeated Italy once more by winning 3-2 on penalties after the game had been tied at 0-0 through 120 minutes. 2002 marked Brazil’s most recent World Cup victory. They won the world cup for the fifth time by defeating Germany 2-0 in the championship game.
