“Above the average”- Ralf Rangnick reveals that United players are well caught up on their COVID boosters

Are your players vaccinated? Yes, this has become an increasingly important parameter to judge a team across all the leagues of Europe, especially in the Premier League due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in England recently. Many players have gotten infected by the virus on it’s re-emergence and it has hampered the teams in many ways. Countless matches have been postponed already and it has affected the league both financially and from a sporting point of view.
Many players across the leagues are being criticised for not having taken the vaccine yet as it is affecting them in so many ways and whether or not to make vaccination compulsory for players has become the talk of the town. Manchester United head coach Ralf Rangnick, however, said in a recent interview that the vaccination status of their players are above ‘league average’.
The German argued that the ratio of ‘double vaccinated’ players is very high at Manchester United as compared to other Premier League clubs. Adding to what Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had said a few days ago, Ralf Rangnick has said that the club will think twice before signing players who are not vaccinated and that getting jabbed will become an important parameter in their scouting parameter.

“I don’t know which of our players have had two or three [the booster] vaccinations. This is a question that only our medical department could answer but I know from our medical department that our ratio of vaccinated players is above the average of the Premier League,” Ralf Rangnick said.
“As far as I know we have a high record of vaccination of players in our club, but still in the last two weeks we have been shown that even if you are vaccinated two or three times, you can still catch the virus, especially the new virus. So you are not being protected [fully] but at least you are being protected from severe symptoms – most of our players who tested positive at least had very weak symptoms and didn’t suffer.”
Talking about Jurgen Klopp’s statement that any non-vaccinated player is a threat to the club, Rangnick said, “Yes, it could be a consideration and I fully understand what Jürgen said,” Rangnick said. “But it also depends if you want to sign a player and risk him not being available.”
“This is an issue the clubs seriously have to think about. If you sign a player knowing from the very first day that he has not been vaccinated, you have to be aware that he might not be available – not only for 10 days, but this could happen regularly in Covid times.”
