Manchester United have not been having a great season. The Red Devils had to change their manager midway through the season after results were not favouring them. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked after just 12 games in charge in the Premier League and was replaced by Ralf Rangnick to steady the ship until the end of the season.

Many players have not played up to the mark this season for Manchester United and that has left the club outside the top 4 of the Premier League. There is serious concern that the Red Devils might mis out on next season’s UEFA Champions League qualification. Marquee signings like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho have failed to make large impact as well.

It is also reported that several players are unhappy with the club’s situation and want clarity on the future manager and the club’s progress. Rumours are flying that Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Eric Bailly and Cristiano Ronaldo are not happy with the current situation at the club and want to leave the club in the summer.

Manchester United have so far denied these rumours and are maintaining their stance that there is a really atmosphere in the club and among the players. However, recent results and the Red Devils’ loss against Manchester City have raised many eyebrows.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson does not believe Manchester United will let go Marcus Rashford in the summer. The England international burst onto the scene in 2016 when the Red Devils were aiming for UEFA Europa League success. Rashford has not looked back since then and has been one of the best players since making his debut.

Paul Merson said,” It has been two or three months and there is talk of Rashford being moved on. Seriously? No manager in their right mind would come to Old Trafford and offload Rashford. Even if I was going to take over the club as manager tomorrow morning, I would not be letting Rashford go!”

The Arsenal legend added,” This is why Manchester United are in a shambles, how haven’t they got a manager in place now. Whoever does come in as manager is not going to get rid of Rashford, so the move will have to be done before then, that is if it going to happen.”

Merson also said,” Everything has been great since Rashford came on to the scene, you could not write it in a book if you tried. Now he has lost confidence and he is finding it hard. His confidence is shot. This is the first time he has lost it since he walked into the Manchester United team.”

“From the moment he made his debut against Midtjylland in the Europa League, scored those two goals, I do not think he has been without that confidence. Against City I remember him taking on three players, but the run was just a token gesture, you could see he did not have the conviction that he was going to past anyone,” said Paul Merson.

The Arsenal legend stated,” I feel sorry for Rashford. It’s a horrible feeling when you lose your confidence in football, but even more so when it happens for the first time. He is not getting a run in the team so when he does come on, he always seems to be chasing the game and he’s trying to do too much.”

Paul Merson lastly said,” He has got to get back playing simple and build his confidence. He has got to get back to basics and, all of a sudden, his confidence will come back because the kid is a good player, you do not become a bad player overnight.”
