Arsenal terminates Willian’s contract, making him available for a free transfer

Arsenal purchased Willian from Chelsea last year for £135 million on a three-year deal, which turned out to be a huge blowout for the Gunners. Willian had only one goal in his 37 appearances for the club.

Willian earned £200,000 per week in Arsenal but after his disappointing performances day after day, the Arsenal board decided to terminate his contract. Since they spent £120 million in this summer transfer window, Arteta and the Arsenal board decided to save funds as much as they can.

Willian will most probably return to his home country after spending almost a decade in England. Corinthians are very keen to sign Willian and negotiations were going on with Arsenal. Since Arsenal terminated the two years remaining contract with Willian, he is now a free agent and will most likely be moving to the Brazilian club for free.

I don’t say it’s unfair because expectations are really high in terms of the goals he can score, the assists he can create. You expect him to be in the starting lineup, so it is normal that people write things about him,” Mikel Arteta said.

Willian’s recent incident which enraged The Gunners

Willian did not play the last match where the Gunners faced their London rivals, Chelsea. The blues ended up defeating Arsenal 2-0 with Lukaku and Reece James on the scoresheet. Willian liked one of Chelsea’s posts on Instagram, just a few moments after their defeat against Chelsea.

This enraged the Gunner fans and they started reacting on social media saying ‘Terminate his Contract’. The Gunner fans responded on Instagram saying ‘Get rid of these Chelsea double agents from our club’.
