Arteta sarcastically thanks the EFA for making Arsenal play 2 games in 3 days
Mikel Arteta
The past few days haven’t been nice to Arteta and Arsenal, for they lost to Liverpool 2-0 and their streak of 4 games, 4 wins was also stopped. Although they had a few bright spots like the absolute gem of a performance by Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard.
They now again have to play against Aston Villa at Villa Park on 19th March. In response to this fixture congestion, Arteta sarcastically thanked the EFA for this fixture congestion.
“Thank you so much to the Premier League,” Arteta exclaims
Arteta, who confirmed the club had raised the issue with the Premier League, said, ”Thank you so much to the Premier League for doing that. And they’ve done it again when we have to play Chelsea and Manchester United. So if they want to give them an advantage, I say to them today: ‘Thank you so much for doing that.’
“Don’t worry the players on Saturday will be there, with energy. They will eat, sleep well, but thank you so much to the Premier League for putting the fixtures like this. Very, very helpful.’
“It is not fair. It is not fair what they have done. It is always ‘it’s BT, it’s Sky, it is this, it’s that – but the one that is affected is Arsenal, and the only thing that I care (about) and we care (about) is Arsenal. And for Arsenal, it is not fair.”
While reflecting on how this would be a common occurrence if they qualify for UCL next season, Arteta also said,” I know the only chance we have is to win an insane amount of football games because our opponents win an incredible amount of football games. The last few years, we have pushed each other to insane levels. It makes each game harder, you can enjoy that but you need to be ready for the intensity.
” We are in a good moment, in a good mood,” Arteta confirms
“I don’t think it is a problem for a human being every three days to be focused on what you do, but then comes the physical part. We don’t fight City, we play City in three or four weeks and we will give them a proper fight then but apart from that we are in a good moment, in a good mood but we know the only way we can do it is to dig really deep.”
Arsenal has their work cut out for them if they want to keep hold of their 4th place in the Premier League table which would ensure a UCL spot finish for the Gunners for the first time since 2016 when they lost to Barcelona.
The Gunners have been the beneficiaries of a very relaxed run of fixtures so far in 2022, only playing more than one game in a week on a pair of occasions – when they had the two legs of the Carabao Cup semi-finals to take part in, where they were also beaten by the Reds on aggregate.
Now, however, having games in hand means they have to squeeze in two more to catch up with the fixtures played by their rivals for Champions League spots and, with their matches picked for television broadcast, he is unhappy at the gap between kick-offs.
