Champions league draw: Atletico vs United, PSG vs Real as UEFA reveals teams’ European fate

The UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw for the 21/22 season is done and as all the sixteen qualified clubs who were eagerly waiting now finally know their opponents. The biggest miss was FC Barcelona who failed to qualify for the knockout round for the first time in 20 years. With that said here’s result of the Champions League round of 16 draw.

  • PSG vs Real Madrid

PSG are up against Real Madrid in the round of 16 as it will be a homecoming for Sergio Ramos and the former Barcelona forward Lionel Messi who have always enjoyed playing against Real in his La Liga days. PSG have the star power in attack, however the Ancelotti’s arrival of Carlo Ancelotti has bought good things to Real Madrid as the Los Blancos sit top of La Liga and are playing some great football with the likes of Vinicius Junior and Benzema combining ever so well.

Group A winner Manchester City are drawn a favourable against Sporting Lisbon. City claimed the top ahead of PSG. However the pressure will be on Pep and his team to deliver the coveted Champions League trophy with Sporting surely will give City the worth of their money.

The European heavyweights Atletico Madrid and Manchester United are once drawn against each other. Former Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo will be up against their city rivals a team which the Portuguese enjoys to play against. This will surely be a mouth watering tie.

  • FC Salzburg vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are up against FC Salzburg in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Salzburg are the first Austrian side to make it to the knockout round of this competition. However it will be a tough task to beat Bayern Munich in order to advance in the competition.

  • Inter vs Liverpool

Inter Milan are up against Liverpool in the Round of 16. Liverpool and Mo Salah in particular have been in red hot form so far this season. However Inter have coped well after the forceful departures of defender Achraf Hakimi and forward Romelu Lukaku. Inter finished second behind Real Madrid, while Liverpool dominated their group by winning all six games against the likes of Porto, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.

  • Villarreal vs Juventus

The last season’s Europa League winners are drawn against the three time finalists Juventus for round of 16. Juventus finished first ahead of Chelsea, while Villarreal beat Atalanta in the final match-day to finish second in group F.

  • Benfica vs Ajax

Benfica will be up against Ajax in the round of 16 in the Champions League. Benfica made it out of a group which had heavyweights like Bayern and Barcelona. However crucial wins agiainst Barcelona and Dynamo Kyiv saw them made it to the knockout rounds. Ajax meanwhile won all six of group games with the top scorer of the competition Sebastien Haller in the form of his life and absolutely on fire this season.
