Manchester United will miss “these” big players for their crucial Premier League game against Chelsea

Manchester United began the post Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era with a win against Villarreal in the Champions League. It also meant a winning start for stand in boss Michael Carrick as reports suggests that Ralf Ragnick is set to take over as interim boss till the end of the season before taking up the consultancy role at the club. Manchester United did enough against Villarreal at the Ceramica to win and qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 as Group F winners with one game to spare.

Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho were both handed starts by Carrick and to be fair both did well as the latter also recorded his first goal for Manchester United as he scored the second goal in the 90th minute to seal all three points. Cristiano Ronaldo kept his goal scoring form going in the Champions League with yet another goal as he pounced on a loose ball by Villarreal keeper Rulli.

Manchester United have confirmed they will make the journey to Stamford Bridge without Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.

Harry Maguire will miss the game against Chelsea as he is serving a one match ban after his red card in the 4-1 loss against Watford last weekend. France duo Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane are both sidelined with long term injuries. The midfielder suffered a long term hamstring injury in the last international break with France and is out for at least the rest of 2021. Raphael Varane on the other hand is battling a thigh injury which relapsed in early November.

Other absentees include Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood as the Uruguayan international has a tendon issue while the youngster is out after testing positive for Covid. Eric Bailly is in contention to start at centre back alongside Victor Lindelof however coach Carrick could play a three at the back with Phil Jones against the leaders. Luke Shaw is also back in training after his minor head injury. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were both on the bench against Villarreal and it will be interesting to see the Manchester United starting line up against the blues.
