Since the 36-year-old’s departure, the No.7 shirt at Manchester United was handed to players such as Michael Owen (2009-12), Antonio Valencia (2012-14), Angel Di Maria (2014-15), Memphis Depay (2015-17) and Alexis Sanchez (2017-19), none of whom managed to stand out at Old Trafford.
Only Edinson Cavani, who last held the converted number, could put up some impressive performances. The Uruguayan netted 17 goals in 39 games last season before handing the No.7 shirt back to Ronaldo. The fans are eager to see their prodigal son return having excelled in Spain and Italy.
Ronaldo returns to the Premier League as the top scorer of all time in football (786 goals), Portugal and international football (111 goals), the Champions League (135 goals) and the European Championship (14 goals). The Red Devils are hoping for another dream run for him as they desperately wait for the trophy drought at Old Trafford to get over. And Ronaldo could just be the one to inspire the side to their first in more than a decade.
