The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draws took place yesterday at the Home of European Football, Nyon. The top 16 teams left in the competition were drawn against each other. The draws were initially held in the afternoon and neither Manchester United nor Atletico Madrid were given easy fixtures.

Initially, Manchester United were to play against Atletico Madrid in the Last 16 tie. It would have been an epic clash as the fans would get to see Cristiano Ronaldo go up against Lionel Messi. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid were to go up against Inter Milan.

However, due to technical failures by the UEFA during the draws, the whole event was considered void and was rescheduled. In the second round of draws, Manchester United were pinned against Atletico Madrid. This is the first time both the teams will play against each other since 1991.

This match will also see Cristiano Ronaldo play against his “favourite opponents”. The whole world will be eager to see how this match turns out to be.

Cristiano Ronaldo has loved playing against Atletico Madrid since his Real Madrid days. The Portuguese international always played a key role for his side when they won against Atletico Madrid. Ronaldo himself considers Atletico Madrid as his “favourite opponents” as he scores almost every time he plays against them.

Cristiano Ronaldo has played 35 games against the Colchoneros. In those games, the Portuguese star has scored 25 goals and provided 9 assists. He has also scored 4 hat tricks against the Spanish club and knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League 5 times.

Ronaldo’s first major performance against the Spanish club came in 2014 when he and his team Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League in extra-time with Ronaldo scoring a goal in the 120th minute of the game. He was one of the contenders for the Man of the Match award that day.

In 2015, Ronaldo again faced the Colchoneros in the quarter finals of the Champions League. This time, the Portuguese international assisted the only goal scored over both the legs to knock Atletico Madrid out of the competition.

After joining Juventus in the summer of 2018, Ronaldo faced Atletico Madrid again in his first season with the Italian club in the Champions League. He put on a great show as he scored a hat trick to turn a 2-0 1st leg deficit into a 3-2 win in the Round of 16.
