Durand Cup 2021: Groups, Fixtures, Live Telecast and more

The new season of Indian football kicks off on 5th September, as the 130th edition of the Durand Cup knocks the door. The prestigious tournament begins on Monday and will end on 3rd October, as 16 teams battle it out to bag Asia’s Oldest trophy. In the previous season in 2019, Gokulam Kerala lifted the cup by beating Mohun Bagan in the final, however, the tournament was not hosted last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 edition of the Durand Cup will be featuring five teams from the Indian Super League, which are Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, Jamshedpur FC, Hyderabad FC as well as Kerala Blasters, who would be making their Durand Cup debut. The tournament will also feature are reigning champions Gokulam Kerala, Mohammedan Sporting and Sudeva Delhi, all from the I-League.
Two teams from the Indian Army, Red and Green, the Indian Navy team, the Indian Air Force team, the CRPF and the Assam Rifles join the tournament too. FC Bengaluru United and Delhi FC will represent the second division.
History of the Durand Cup
The Durand Cup first took place in Shimla in the year 1888, making it the oldest football tournament in Asia, and the third oldest across the world. The Durand Cup got its name from British India’s Foreign Secretary in the 1884-94 period, Sir Mortimer Durand. The tournament features two levels, group stages and knockouts. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal extend their rivalry here too, as both the teams have 16 trophies each, making them the sides with most no. of Durand Cups.

Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, commonly known as The Salt Lake Stadium, The Mohun Bagan Club Ground and the Kalyani Municipal Stadium Ground are the three grounds in Kolkata that will be hosting the tournament.
