Euro 2020 or Euro 2021: What is the name of the upcoming Euro Championship

UEFA Euro 2020 trophy
The Euro 2020 tournament was effectively postponed last year owing to the coronavirus outbreak, and it will now be held in the summer of 2021. The 16th edition of the tournament will now begin on June 11 and conclude on July 11, exactly a year after the initial dates were announced by UEFA. Fans, on the other hand, have been perplexed as to why the event is still referred to as Euro 2020 despite the fact that it will take place in 2021.
The justification for keeping the initial name was detailed in a statement on UEFA’s website, which read: “Following the postponement of UEFA EURO 2020 to the summer of 2021, and after a thorough internal review as well as several discussions with partners, the UEFA Executive Committee has decided that the tournament will still be known as UEFA EURO 2020.”
‘Choice is in line with UEFA’s commitment to make Euro 2020 sustainable’

“This decision allows UEFA to keep the original vision of the tournament, which was set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the European Football Championship (1960–2020). It will furthermore serve as a reminder of how the whole football family came together to respond to the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, and of the difficult times that Europe, and the world, had to go through in 2020.”
“This choice is in line with UEFA’s commitment to make UEFA EURO 2020 sustainable and not to generate additional amounts of waste. A lot of branded material had already been produced by the time of the tournament’s postponement. A name change for the event would have meant the destruction and reproduction of such items.”
To accommodate the delay of Euro 2020, which begins next month, significant alterations have to be made to the football schedule. The first game, a Group A contest between Turkey and Italy, will take place on June 11 in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.
England and the World champions France are one of the favorites to win the title, although Belgium, Germany, and Spain are all expected to be potential contenders.
