Federico started out his career in Uruguay with Penarol in 2008. His debut came in 2015 against Cerro in the Uruguayan top flight. The midfielder started out so well that he earned a place in the Uruguayan youth teams that caught the eye of the biggest teams in the world like Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid out of whom the Los Blancos signed him in 2016 where he got assigned to the Real Madrid Castilla.
The midfielder was loaned out to Deportivo La Coruna in 2017 for a year where he made his debut in a loss to Real Sociedad. He made a total of 24 appearances throughout that campaign.
