Gerard Pique shuts off the Journalist who claimed he earns €28M gross a season with Screenshots of his Bank statement

Gerard Pique has recently been accused by one of the renowned reporters of Catalan television, Lluis Canut as one of the highest earners as per statistics in Barcelona is currently quite contrary to the fact of the Spaniard defender taking a pay cut to reduce Barcelona’s wage bill this summer.

Gerard Pique has not taken the ill statement of the reporter and has declared it a sham by releasing the screenshot of his Bank statement on social media where the club has paid his half salary of the year in December.

The Spanish defender said, “People like this are paid by public television to defend their friends. Here is 50% of my salary as of 30 December. Have a bit of respect for yourself.”

Gerard Pique currently earns €4.6m yearly in FC Barcelona. Similarly, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets faced a similar scenario as Canut placed these veteran Barcelona players in the top earners.

The Catalan club has recently been going through a financial crisis as they have been struggling to register their new signings. Dani Alves was registered as now they struggle with Ferran Torres.

The club has declared in one of there official statements that, “In relation to comments made by Lluis Canut on TV3, Barcelona would like to clarify the following, the information on the salaries of certain first team players has not, in any case, been supplied by the club and its origin is unknown.”

“In any case, the amounts referred to in the information are erroneous and do not conform to reality. Furthermore, in the case of the first three players referred to [Piqué, Busquets and Alba], it gives fixed amounts which, as the sums involved are based on variables, will possibly never be reached.”

“We consider it inappropriate, unprofessional and that [Canut] has acted in bad faith by offering this information as truthful.”

Xavi Hernandez currently has a lot of important matters in hand as the new Spanish manager looks forward to returning the Catalan club to its glory days. Xavi and the board will be looking to get rid of some players to reduce the wage as Ferran Torres has an important role to play in Xavi’s project at FC Barcelona.
