A history that makes the match more captivating

Morocco and France have shared some brief history for a very long time. Morocco was an independent country but unstable due in terms of economic, social, and administrative government. A secret agreement between the European colonial powers France, Italy, Spain, and Britain in 1906 put the country under the administration of the French.

The extreme south part of the region was also assigned to Spain. Germany was against the agreement and wanted Morocco to be independent. The French held onto the country for 44 years. The colonial government’s rule was one of the darkest chapters of the nation’s history.

The Moroccan resistance started in 1921, which was nine years after the colonial power took charge. A separate republic to the RIF was formed, with the Moroccan Action Committee coming into force in 1934. The organization had a significant role to play in their independence. The Istiqlal party in 1944 led the country to independence in 1956.

France and Morocco so far in the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Almost all of the burden for France is held on the shoulders of 3 main players! Olivier Giroud has been in great scoring form alongside Kylian Mbappe and their captain and Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who has been phenomenal between the sticks. The group stage would have been great if they wouldn’t lose to Tunisia but a defeat to Poland and England compensated for that too.

Morocco, on the other hand, has been the surprising element of this year’s World Cup. High-flying Belgium lost against them in the group stage.  The Croats were only able to secure a draw against them. The table toppers were again put to a stern test in front of a young Spanish side whom they defeated In the Shootouts. Portugal’s loss against them in the Quarterfinals, thanks to the impressive performance of goalie Yassine Bounou became their hero then.
