Former Schalke FC defender Hiannick Kamba faces 10 years in jail for faking his own death
In January 2016 when it was declared that former Schalke FC defender Hiannick Kamba had died due to a car crash in his home country Congo it sent the footballing world in a huge shock. Last year in May it was found that the 35-year-old was still alive. Well, many of us would have been surprised to hear this. It was found out that Hiannick Kamba had faked his own death to get a 1 million pound insurance payout.
The former Schalke FC player has been sentenced to a 10-year prison sentence due to this offence. The Congolese defender and his wife are now facing court and have been accused of gross manipulation with regards to faking his death for an insurance claim.
Kamba and his wife are facing the Essen court and one of the spokespersons of Essen court Thomas Kliegel has reported to the media that Kamba and his wife had taken a life insurance policy for Hiannick.
Last year Kamba was found in Gelsenkirchen. After reporting that Hiannick has died due to a car crash Kamba’s wife Christina produced the documents and claimed the insurance payment. The insurance company though gave away the money. Kamba has played alongside German star Manuel Neuer during his playing days at Schalke 04. Kamba has also played for various other German clubs in the lower divisions.
What Hiannick Kamba, his wife and his Wife’s lawyer said?
Kamba however went to the German embassy 2 years later in Kinshasa and said he was kidnapped according to Thomas Kliegel. Christina’s lawyer however said that Christina herself was surprised and shocked after knowing her husband was alive. Christina also told the same thing to a news agency.
Kamba is working as a chemical technician for an energy supply company in Germany. Kamba along with his family went to Germany from Congo in 1986. While Kamba was allowed residency rights in Germany as he had spent his youth career at Schalke FC his family was sent back to Congo.
