Qatar is hosting the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup and the excitement keeps on increasing every time the tournament takes place. It all started in the year 1930 when the first ever FIFA World Cup was organised, the Jules Rimet Trophy. The tournament was officially named the FIFA World Cup in 1970.
A lot of countries have hosted these prestigious tournaments and bids for hosting the FIFA World Cup are held on a pre-basis. The 2022 World Cup host nation Qatar won the bid for its hosting rights 12 years back in 2010.
A total of 32 teams participate in the FIFA World Cup. The two best teams from each group from the tournament’s first round will qualify for the R-16. The quarter-finals are among the best 8, followed by the semi-finals and the finals, which decide the winner and crown the best national team in the whole of the globe for the next four years.

Brazil: The Samba boys is the only nation to have had successive world cup final runs in two separate occasions
Brazil is the team who has appeared in most of the finals, even in consecutive tournaments. The most time-crowned FIFA World Cup champions appeared in the 1958 and 1962 editions finals, and both won the game. The next time they secured consecutive world cup finale entries was in 1994, 1998, and 2002. Where they lost in 1998 and won the other two in 1994 and 2002.

Germany made it to three sucessive world cup finals in the 80s
West Germany is the second-highest World Cup accolades, with four titles and four runner-ups. They were formerly divided as West Germany and East Germany. The West made all the final appearances. They appeared consecutively in the years 1982, 1986, and 1990. In 82 they lost in the finals to Italy. In 1986 they lost to Argentina but got their revenge in 1990, defeating them in the finals.
Diego Maradona’s Argentina secured concecutive world cup final apperances in the late 80s
Argentina so far has won this prestigious tournament twice and appeared in consecutive finals in 1986 and 1990. They won the 1986 edition of the World Cup with the help of the infamous Hand of God goal. Diego Maradona-led side lost against West Germany in the finals of 1990. After that, they reached the finals only in 2014 just to lose against Germany again.

Italy made it to sucessive finals in the 30s
Italians have always been famous for their defense and the line of defenders they produce. The team so as their defenders, successfully reached the finals of the edition of 1934 and 1938 and won both of them. The first edition was against Czechoslovakia 2-1 and the later one against Hungary 4-2. Fate has been hard upon them as they haven’t been able to perform the heroics after then.

The Netherlands, the inventors of ‘total football,’ had a consecutive world cup final run in the 70s
The Netherlands is the last team on the list to have appeared in a World Cup finals in consecutive editions. They lost in the 1974 campaign against west Germany under the leadership of Sir Johan Cruyff. The next time out in 1978 they reached the final again only to be defeated by Argentina. Since then they have only appeared in the finals of the World Cup in 2010 which they lost against Spain.
