Since the takeover of Newcastle United by the Saudi public investment fund, all eyes are on Newcastle United as they secure their first signing in the January transfer window as England right-back Kieran Trippier completes the move from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £12m plus add ons on a two and half year deal. Trippier won the La Liga last season however he recently had lost his place in the Atletico Madrid starting XI and a move back to the Premier League was a no brainer for the defender.

The 31 year-old defender was also a transfer target for Manchester United earlier in the summer transfer window however the Red Devils couldn’t come to terms with Atletico Madrid. Newcastle are at the moment battling relegation and Trippier is aware of their position in the table but the defender is up for the challenge. Trippier will play a huge role in their survival in the Premier League this season. Trippier knows head coach well as the pair worked together at Burnley back in 2011.

“I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club, It’s a good opportunity for me, I love challenges. I tested myself in Spain and now i’m testing myself at Newcastle. I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.” Trippier said.

The defender further added that it was not money which lured him to sign for Newcastle instead it was because of personal reasons. “I have personal reasons with my family and it was most important that they were happy and settled with the decision. I knew the players and staff and it made it easy for me.”

Kieran Trippier definitely has a lot to offer on and off the pitch for Newcastle with the right back having immense Premier League experience from his time at Tottenham and also a successful spell at Atletico Madrid.

“I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of the Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players. I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player.”

Trippier will surely have one eye on making Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad at the end of this year but first the defender’s main aim will be to help Newcastle United to secure Premier League football for next season.
