“I’d rather give it to Duncan until the end of the season.” – Everton fans disappointed on the potential appointment of Frank Lampard as manager

“I’d rather give it to Duncan until the end of the season.” – Everton fans disappointed on the potential appointment of Frank Lampard as manager

With rumours suggesting the appointment of Frank Lampard as the new Everton manager, it has produced some mixed reactions from the fans. Everton have sacked manager Rafa Benitez last week and the appointment of the new manager is already on the cards. Former Chelsea player and manager, Frank Lampard has reportedly impressed Everton’s majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, and members of the club’s board.

Talking to Sky Sports, while some fans have expressed their excitement regarding the potential appointment, some said that they would have preferred if it was given to the current caretaker manager, Duncan Ferguson.

Duncan Ferguson was the caretaker manager for Everton’s game against Steve Gerrard‘s Aston Villa which the Toffees lost by a fine margin of 1-0.

Speculations surrounding the appointment of new Everton manager

The club leadership has held meetings with a number of candidates for the managerial role, which included Frank Lampard, Duncan Ferguson, the current caretaker manager, and Vítor Pereira. Prior reports suggested that the Portuese manager Vítor Pereira was the favourite to be offered the job after being asked to travel to London.

However, reactions from a certain section of the fans seem to have forced the club administration to take a step back and reconsider the potential appointment of Pereira as the manager of the club. A graffiti message “Pereira out, Lampard in” was found on a wall of Goodison Park on Tuesday, and that graffiti artist’s wish seems to have come true, though the final details of Lampard’s contract have still to be finalised.

Frank Lampard had been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in January last year with the club ninth in the Premier League. If all turns out well, the 43-year old manager will have a great challenge as well as an opportunity in his hands to make a mark in his managerial career.
