“I’m not very impressed with him”: Cameroon Striker Aboubakar takes a dig at Mo Salah ahead of their AFCON Semi-final clash

Egyptian King Mohamed Salah is perhaps the greatest footballing icon to have ever been born in an African nation. There could be an argument as to who is the African G.O.A.T – Egypt’s Mo Salah or Côte d’Ivoire’s Didier Drogba but the Liverpool star has crossed Drogba’s goalscoring record in the Premier League this season in a significantly less number of match and for many that is the end of the debate. However, Cameroonian international Vincent Aboubakar is not impressed by the Egyptian.

Cameroon are set to take on Egypt in the Semi-finals of AFCON and Aboubakar is probably just doing his bit of trash talk to get under the skin of his fellow rival Mo Salah, but there was not an ounce of sarcasm in his tone and it seemed like he meant what he said. Vincent Aboubakar is the highest goalscorer of the ongoing tournament. He has scored 6 goals in 5 matches in AFCON so far and he will have a chance to increase his goal tally against Egypt in the semi-final.

The Cameroonian’s flawless performance has given him the bragging rights and the position to criticize Mo Salah at least Temporarily as he is way behind Aboubakar’s goal tally in the AFCON. The striker said that although Mo Salah scores a lot of goals, he thinks the Egyptian lacks playmaking abilities and that he does not have what it takes to ‘run a game’.

What Vincente Aboubakar said about Mo Salah

Speaking about his rival, Vincent Aboubakar said, “I’m not very impressed with him. I say it clearly because I am an honest person and I have my own way of seeing things. If he impressed me, I would say so. But he doesn’t impress me much.”

“He’s a good player, he scores a lot but he doesn’t produce a lot of stuff in the game. Of course he does good things in the Premier League because he’s been in a team for years.”

Adding further to the taunts, the Cameroonian said, “I see him as he was before. He’s having a great season in the Premier League, helping his country to advance in this competition (Afcon). I wish him a lot of luck. May the best man win!”

He concluded his statement by comparing Mo Salah to PSG star Kylian Mbappe. “He is a good player but not at the level of someone like Mbappe.”

Will these taunts affect Mohamed Salah in the semi-final clash or will it make him even more convinced to defeat them? Only time will tell.
