Indian Super League: How could Mumbai City FC Lineup in the 2021/22 season?
The Indian Super League is again back this season with some exciting action on the pitch as 11 teams battle out for that Golden ISL Trophy of 2021/22 season.
Let us have a look at the probable lineup of Mumbai City FC for the 2021/22 season of the Indian Super League. Mumbai City will be more than prepared to showcase their skillset once again after their first title last season and with the new signing in place they look much better and stronger this season.
Mumbai City FC: Probable Lineup
Goalkeeper- Mohammad Nawaz
Mohammad Nawaz, the young Goalkeeper was a part of the AIFF elite academy in 2016 during which he played the U-17 BRICS tournament for the Indian National Team. He played a major part in the FC Goa squad during their 2018/19 season which they finished runners up in the ISL. Nawaz signed a three year deal with Mumbai City before the start of this season and will be looking to make a major difference with the defending champions.
Right Back- Huidrom Naocha Singh
The Manipur born defender was a major part of the Gokulam Kerala FC squad which won the Durand Cup in 2019 and the I-League in 2020/21 season. Singh began his youth career with NEROCA FC and rose through the ranks to become an exceptional right back and also has the ability to play in the left back. Huidrom Naocha Singh signed a three year deal with Mumbai City as he will be able eager to prove himself in his debut ISL season.
Centre Back- Mourtada Fall
The Senegalese defender began his career with the Moroccan club Moghreb Tétouan and has risen through the ranks to become a very tactical defender. Mourtada’s first stint in ISL came with FC Goa, helping the Gaurs to reach the finals of 2018/19 season. Mourtada signed with Mumbai City before the start of the 2020/21 season and helped them to lift the ISL trophy for the first time.
Centre Back- Mehtab Singh
Mehtab Singh grew up from the youth set up of East Bengal where he spent a considerable amount of time and also won the Calcutta Football League in 2017/18. Mehtab joined Mumbai City before their glory season in 2020/21 and played an important role in the back line.
Left Back- Vignesh Dakshinamurthy
Vignesh Dakshinamurthy rose through the ranks of the Ozone Academy to sign for Mumbai City before the 2017/18. Until the 2020 season Vignesh had very little appearances for the Islanders but his exceptional performance in 2020/21 helped Mumbai City to lift their first ISL title.
Midfielder- Raynier Fernandes
Raynier Fernandes has grown through the youth ranks of Air India until 2016 when he joined for the I-League side Mohun Bagan. Fernandes has proved himself as a major part of the Mumbai City squad since his joining in 2018. He played a vital role in playing as the anchor in the midfield during Mumbai City’s winning campaign.
Midfielder- Ahmed Jahouh
Ahmed Jahouh, the Moroccan defensive midfielder has proved himself as one of the best in the Moroccan League during his stint with Moghreb Tétouan. His debut season in ISL is still considered one of the best during his time with FC Goa where his passing and other stats as a midfielder was off the charts.
Attacking Midfielder- Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia)
The young Indian Midfielder is the highest player signed this season as Mumbai City seals a contract with Ralte for 5years. Lalengmawia’s stats with NorthEast United was completely on a different level as he went on to win the Emerging player of the year in 2020/21 season. Ralte will definitely be looking forward to come up with something much better with the defending champions this campaign.
Right Winger- Vikram Pratap Singh
Vikram Singh has risen through the ranks of Chandigarh Football Academy and eventually playing in the AIFF Elite Academy representing Indian Arrows. The young 19 year old made his mark for the Islanders in the previous season as Mumbai City went on to win their first title.
Central Forward- Ygor Catatou
Ygor Catatau the Brazilian forward graduated from the youth academy of Madureira. He has spread a considerable amount of time exploring himself various club on a loan streak. Mumbai City signed Ygor on a season long loan at the start of the 2021/22 season.
Left Winger- Bipin Singh
Bipin Singh began his youth career with Wafa Wangoi Club from where he continued to rise through the ranks and signed for Shillong Lajong playing in the I-League. Biping Singh made his debut in ISL during his stint with ATK in 2017 before signing for the Islanders before the 2018 season. Bipin Singh played a crucial role in Mumbai City’s first winning campaign during the 2020/21 season of ISL.
