Indian Super League: How could NorthEast United FC Lineup in the 2021/22 season?
The Indian Super League is again back this season with some exciting action on the pitch as 11 teams battle out for that Golden ISL Trophy of 2021/22 season.
Let us have a look at the probable lineup of NorthEast United for the 2021/22 season of the Indian Super League. Khalid Jamil has really taken off with this team with their incredible display of football in the last season even though they got knocked out in the semis.
Khalid Jamil will be looking forward to carry forward their momentum and will hope to perform much better with the new signings this season.
NorthEast United FC: Probable Lineup
Goalkeeper- Subhasish Roy Chowdhury
Subhasish Roy Chowdhury has been the part of the ISL from the inaugral season and was a part of the ATK squad which won the ISL in 2014. The Bengal Goalkeeper has played for six different clubs in the ISL but his stint with NorthEast United has been the most remarkable especially after that top four finish in the 2020/21 season.
Right Back- Joe Zoherliana
Zoherliana is the newly signed right back of NorthEast United who signed from Bengaluru FC after not receiving any game time in the last season. He began his youth career in the Shillong Lajong FC’s youth academy where he showcased his skillset to become known. Aizawal FC signed the defender in 2018 where he defined his worth in 2019/20 season, winning the title of I-League at the end of the season.
Centre Back- Jestin George
Jestin George was signed by NEUFC two months before the beginning of the 2021/22 season of ISL after the defender proved to be an essential member of the Gokulam FC’s squad which won the Durand Cup in 2019 as well as the I-League in the previous season.
Centre Back- Hernán Santana
The Spanish midfielder was another of Khalid Jamil’s new signing after his display of some quality football with Mumbai City in last season who went on to win the ISL Trophy. Santana rose from the ranks of the youth academy of UD Las Palmas and spent considerable amount of time playing in the La Liga as well in the Segunda Division before his move to India.
Left Back- Provat Lakra
Provat Lakra has been the left back for the highlanders for the last three years and has definitely found his place in the team’s first lineup. Lakra rose through the ranks from the local club Pathachakra to Gokulam Kerala FC, displaying his abilities as a full grown left back.
Central Midfielder- Shenaj Singh
Shenaj Singh has represented five different sides in the Indian Super League. The Midfielder’s time with Mohun Bagan in I-League was the most commendable where he went on to win the I-League title in 2014/15. He has also won the Indian Super League in 2019/20 season during his stint with ATK.
Defensive Midfielder- Khassa Camara
Camara has spent a considerable amount of playing time in the French football where he represented Troyes and Boulogne for six long season. Camara signed for Xanthi, one of the top clubs in Super League where he proved his worth as a defensive midfielder. NEUFC signed him before the start of the 2020/21 season and has since then made his mark by taking the team in their second playoffs last season.
Central Midfielder- Federico Gallego
Federico Gallego has been a part of the the Highlanders since his 2018/19 loan stint with the club after which he signed a permanent three year deal. Gallego has been the key player in NorthEast United Lineup as he helped them to reach the playoffs two times within three years. In last season Gallego had four goals and six assists although their journey ended in the semis.
Left Wing- Rochharzela
The young Indian midfielder is a versatile players who can even play as a winger. Rochharzela was the academy product of Aizawal FC who rose through the ranks with his commendable skillset and signed with NEUFC before the start of 2020/21 season. Last season he had a goal and two assists in 12 matches.
Striker- Deshorn Brown
The Jamaican forward spent a considerable amount of time playing in US and China before moving to India. He signed for Bengaluru FC during the 2020/21 season before making a move to NEUFC for the 2021/22 season. He has scored 5 goals in just 10 appearances last soon as he stepped foot representing the Highlanders.
Right Wing- Manvir Singh
The young Indian striker has played a key role in India winning the 2019 SAFF U-18 Championship which was hosted in Bangladesh, as he scored two goals which had a very vital impact on their result. The 20 year old striker recently signed a three year deal with the Highlanders.
