Is Karim Benzema more worthy to Real Madrid than Cristiano Ronaldo?
Karim Benzema, the third-highest goal scorer in the history of Real Madrid, joined the club back in 2009 from Olympique Lyon. Ever since he joined, the French forward played a second string to the great Cristiano Ronaldo, so much so that fans had to wait until the Portuguese left to witness Karim’s best.
Years will pass by and yet football fans around the world will eternally remember the No. 9’s outlandish performance as Real Madrid registered a massive 3-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night at Santiago Bernabeau. A night that comprised of total domination in the first half from Mauricio Pochettino’s men, led by a scoreline of 2-0 in aggregate, until the Frenchman decided to take it upon himself to save his club from this defeat.
One goal after another as Karim Benzema decimated the PSG defence in less than 20 minutes and PSG players could do nothing but stand still and watch his mastery. Three goals in a span of 20 minutes, and it served as a reminder to why one should never write Real Madrid off.

Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo
Following this incredible comeback, a question is normal to arise among some fans. Is Karim Benzema, a player once deemed to be a serviceman to Cristiano Ronaldo, worth more to Real Madrid than Cristiano Ronaldo? Now, this wildish argument is definitely something that is based more on sentiment than on logic but since we are already here, why not explore the avenues to the argument.
Karim Benzema, a player of his stature never had any issues with his wages, never pressed for renewals, took more criticism than anybody and has always been there for the team with his positive attitude for all of his career. Real Madrid took quite a hit after Cristiano departed from Bernabeau followed by Zinedine Zidane and had to go through a lot of rough patches.
A player like Benzema, if he desired, would have made it into any club in the world and yet he chose to stay with the Los Blancos in the difficult times. So, Karim Benzema might not have the unimaginable goals and assists numbers like Cristiano, but for fans, he will be more Madridista than the Portuguese ever was.
