Is Kylian Mbappe faster than Usain Bolt?

The 2018 World Cup winner has been compared to Usain Bolt for his extraordinary acceleration.

Is Kylian Mbappe faster than Usain Bolt?

Kylian Mbappe is one of the fastest football players on the planet. The Paris Saint-Germain striker has broken record after record on the football pitch, but there is a parallel he is drawing on the track field. The Frenchman’s top speed has been compared to Usain Bolt.

When M’bappe scored his magnificent goal against Monaco in 2019, laying the ball off in his own half before racing into the centre of the pitch to finish off a wonderful play, he was compared to Usain Bolt. The Frenchman’s determined dash from the halfway line touched 38 kph (23.61mph), quicker than Bolt’s 37.58 kph (23.35mph) when he established his 9.58 second 100m world record in 2009.

However, this does not make the 2018 World Cup winner faster than the Jamaican. Bolt hit a top speed of 42.7km/h (27.8mph) in his record-breaking sprint. Another player had earlier been clocked quicker than the Jamaican over 40 metres. Hector Bellerin’s sprint in training covered 40 metres in 4.41 seconds. Again, Bolt would outrun the Spaniard in a 100-metre race comfortably.

This would not be detrimental to M’bappe. The Frenchman is the second youngest world cup winner of all time and has achieved unparalleled success on the pitch for anyone his age. M’bappe is on course to win yet another Ligue 1 title as his team races away in the league.

Kylian M’bappe’s goal against Nantes has made him the top scorer in the club’s history. The Frenchman had joined the club in 2017, initially on loan, before breaking the world transfer record for a teenager at €145 million plus €35 million in add-ons. M’bappe has been the club’s most prolific player ever since

In the Parisian’s recent 4–2 win over Nantes, Mbappé scored his 201st PSG goal, surpassing Edinson Cavani as PSG’s all-time top scorer. The Frenchman is also the club’s top goal-getter in the league, having netted 141 times in the competition.

However, M’bappe’s future in the French capital has always been puzzling. The Frenchman has always spoken for his love for the club, yet is regularly linked with European Giants, Real Madrid. M’bappe has also been reported to be dissatisfied with the running of the club, which contributes to his rumours. However, he has quelled those rumours, stating at the start of the year, “I’m very happy. I never asked for my departure in January.”
