Columbia International James Rodriguez stunned Football fans a few months ago with his move to Qatar Stars League club Al Rayyan. He had been suffering from a rough patch in his career for a couple of years now but such a downgrade for a player who had so much potential during his early days, is indeed heartbreaking. Not was kind of lost from the limelight ever since that move unless today. His heroic deed in a Qatar league match has brought the former Real Madrid star back to spotlight once again – maybe good deed pays off after all. 

Al Rayyan took on Al Wakrah FC on 10th January at the Al Gharafah stadium. James Rodriguez sealed the match for his side with a fantastic brace as they went on to win 3-0. The only other goal came from defender Shojae Khalilzadeh. Al Rayyan dominated for the entirety of the match and that was never even the point of it going viral. It was an incident during the match which had the entire world talking about.

During the first half when Al Rayyan was up by 1 goal, Al Wakrah player Ousmane Coulibaly suffered a cardiac arrest mid-pitch and fell down immediately, kind of giving us flashbacks of Christian Eriksen’s unfortunate incident in the 2020 Euro Cup. It was then that James Rodriguez was seen running down towards the opposition player to aid him before the medics could step up. He performed a life saving move on the opponent as a first aid. The match was paused for a long while due to the incident.

The 32-year old was rushed to the hospital immediately as he is in a stable condition right now. 

Qatar Star League’s official statement on the incident

Ousmane Coulibaly fainted on the ground after having a cardiac arrest.

In a statement revealed by Qatar Stars League, the league heads said, ‘During the QNB Stars League match between Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah on Saturday, Ousmane Coulibaly suffered a heart attack which required the intervention of medical and ambulance staff present at the venue.’

‘It may be noted that the player is currently receiving necessary medical care and attention.’

‘The Qatar Stars League wishes the player a fast recovery, and we would like to thank the medical staff of both teams, paramedics and doctors for their great efforts during such events.

‘Regarding the status of the match, it was agreed to end it and complete the remaining time later starting with the score when it was stopped (1-0 in favour of Al Rayyan).’ 

The game was resumed later and as mentioned earlier, Al Rayyan won it by a margin of 3-0.
