Jules Kounde drops major hint about his future amidst ongoing interests from Real Madrid and Manchester United
Jules Kounde has admitted that he could leave Sevilla this summer after another successful season with the Andalusian outfit.
Speaking in a press conference at Clairefontaine, the 22-year-old Sevilla central defender admitted that he is likely to leave his current club this summer.
Kounde speaks up about his future ambitions in his interview
Jules Kounde revealed he could look to leave the club this summer in his pursuit of winning major trophies as he spoke at the French national side’s camp in Clairefontaine, and how he sees himself potentially moving on to pastures new. Kounde has been heavily linked with moves to Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in recent months after two impressive campaigns at Sevilla.
Kounde signed for Sevilla in the summer of 2019 and has quickly grown into one of the most coveted central defenders in Europe. The Frenchman enjoyed a stunning debut campaign in Spain, helping Los Nervionenses to the UEFA Europa League title and enjoyed another fine season in 2020/21.
“Regarding my future, it is certain that I will perhaps have to change clubs this summer, but nothing has been finalised yet, I have not decided anything.“
“My goal is, one day, to evolve into a great club to always try to progress, win trophies. To be able to start the season each year by telling yourself that the goal is win a particular trophy. I might have to move, but that’s not relevant today.” said Kounde as he looks to concentrate solely on the Euros as of now.
And when asked if he had noticed exactly when he was becoming a major prospect, Kounde added: “I would say that perhaps when I arrived at Sevilla and started playing more and more, also with the arrival of the Champions League. It has always been something in my head. I have always believed in it, I have always worked for it. To have it.“
“That objective in the sights meant that I was able to have the performances I did at Sevilla. Also thanks to this club that helped me a lot and my team-mates who always pushed me.“
Kounde excelled at Sevilla since his move from Bordeaux in 2019 and has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in European football.
Having helped the Andalusian side to their sixth Europa League trophy in his first season, putting in some sensational performances along the way, Kounde has continued that good form this campaign as Sevilla finished fourth in LaLiga Santander, securing Champions League football.
His recent comments will have drawn attention from potential suitors around Europe and his stock will likely be raised even more if he puts in some impressive displays at the European Championship with France this summer. Sevilla, as one would expect, are extremely reluctant to lose their prized asset in the summer transfer window. His release clause at Sevilla is €90million,but the club know that no one will be willing to meet that price in the upcoming transfer window given the financial difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the La Liga giants would be open to a sale in case their valuation of €70m is met by any club.
