Liverpool refuse to release Mohammed Salah for Egypt’s World Cup qualifiers

Liverpool have refused to release their star striker Mohammed Salah for Egypt’s World Cup qualifiers next month. The club has decided not to release the striker, keeping in mind the strict quarantine rules he will have to face upon returning from national duty.

Salah was called up to the Egypt squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Gabon and Angola on September 3rd and 6th respectively. Egypt is currently on UK’s Red travel list which means that anyone who has visited the country will have to undergo a strict 10-day quarantine on returning to the UK.

However, Liverpool have no objections if Salah is played in the second match in Gabon, which is currently in UK’s amber list and no quarantine rules would be in place.

The Egypt FA said: “The Egyptian Football Association has received a letter from Liverpool FC apologizing for the inability of its player, Mohamed Salah, to join the national team in its next camp, which includes facing Angola in Cairo and Gabon in Franceville during the first and second rounds of the African continent’s qualifiers for the World Cup.

Liverpool officials however could not restrain their Brazilian stars Alisson, Fabinho, and Firmino from joining their national side. Brazil coach Tite has called up the trio for the Selecaos’ 3 World Cup qualifying matches in South America. Like Egypt, Brazil are also on the UK’s red travel list, which would mean all three of these players will have to isolate for 10 days upon returning thereby making them miss Liverpool’s first match after the international break against Leeds United on the 12th of September.
