Varane has completed 10 years at the Spanish capital this season and reports have claimed that the 28-year old centre-back is looking for a new challenge in foreign shores. And after France’s shock exit from the EURO 2020, the defender will have enough time on his hand to plan his future. The move works well for United who had prioritized the signing of a right-winger, defensive midfielder and a defender ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Despite Varane’s contract expiring in a year from now, Real Madrid had initially valued the centre-half at €70m. However, United a United regarded the price as too high for a player entering the final year of his contract.

Real Madrid, on the other hand will have to come to a decision very soon if they do not want to lose the player for free next season. A fee of around €70m will help Los Blancos’ cause as the club continues to struggle with financial problems. The money received from the sale of the defender can also help the club make a ‘Galactico signing’ this season, most likely in the form of Haaland or Mbappe.
