Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo takes a dig at “jealous” Wayne Rooney over his “moving on” remark

Cristiano Ronaldo sarcastically took a jibe at Wayne Rooney on Thursday over his comments that Manchester United should move on from him at the beginning of the next season.
Rooney appeared as a pundit for Sky Sports and was scathingly reviewing his former club’s performance against Leicester City, who drew 1-1 against them on Monday evening. The former United captain claimed that Ralf Rangnick’s side is already out of the race to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League and hinted that “there are a few players they need to let go” this summer.
Rooney also named Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba as two of the players who United should look to leave behind once the season is over, a thing which prompted Ronaldo to comment “ Two jealous” on Rooney’s post which he shared of himself with other pundits in the Sky Sports studio.

Rooney was asked if the Ronaldo signing has worked out for Manchester United, to which he replied,” ‘You’d have to say no, at the minute. I think he’s scored goals, he’s scored important goals in the Champions League early on in the season. He scored the hat-trick against Tottenham. But I think if you look to the future of the club you would have to go with younger, hungry players to do the best to lift Manchester United over these next two, three years.”
Rooney further claimed that although Ronaldo is still trying his level best, he “isn’t the player he was when he was in his twenties” and thus, the Red Devils need to move on from him and sign much “younger and hungry players.”
‘And obviously, Cristiano is getting on a bit. He certainly isn’t the player he was when he was in his twenties. And that happens, that’s football. He’s a goal threat but I think the rest of the game they need more, they need young, hungry players,” added the former Manchester United striker.
Rooney and Ronaldo were considered to be best friends back when Ronaldo was in his first stint at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson. We’ll see now how this saga proceeds now that Ronaldo has initiated a war of words on Instagram.
