Maguire gets injured in a clash with opponents El Ghazi at Villa park

Manchester United have been left quite concerned over a serious ligament injury suffered by Harry Maguire that puts him at risk of missing the Europa League final. Maguire picked up the injury in the game against Aston Villa at the weekend and missed Tuesday night’s clash against Leicester. He was seen at Old Trafford during that game wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

Maguire has been a key figure at Old Trafford since his arrival from Leicester City in 2019 and was made captain shortly after signing. He had started the last 72 games before Tuesday night’s match and had’nt missed a minute previously, playing a leader’s role at the back. It is his return for the Europa League final that could prove to be a huge boost for United.

Is Maguire at risk of missing the Euros too along with the Europa league Final?

Maguire has proved to be key figure in Ole’s United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now revealed the England defender will not play again in the Premier League this season and that he could be a doubt for Euro 2020. Maguire was seen at Old Trafford during that game against Leicester wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

“The good news is it wasn’t broken, no fracture, but ligament injury is serious.

“Saying I’m very positive would be stretching it. I’m hopeful. I don’t think he’ll play in (the) league again but we’ll do everything we can to get him ready for the final.” remarked the United boss after his team’s defeat against Leicester.

Solskjaer seemed unrevealing. The United manager added: “You always try to look after players long-term, if he’s fit he’ll play for us, if he’s not he won’t.

“We’re hopeful he’s ready and if he’s ready for us he’ll be ready for the Euros. Norway’s not in the Euros, I’m not really that concerned.” Skolsjaer remarked.

United are almost guaranteed to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season, but Maguire’s return could be crucial if they are to triumph in the Europa League final against Villarreal on May 26.

Maguire is considered one of they key players for England bringing much needed stability to the backline

Maguire’s fitness is arguably more significant for England than United, given his importance to Gareth Southgate. Southgate has relied on Maguire’s consistency and ability to operate as a left-sided centre-back, despite his right-footedness, since taking charge of England.

Maguire is a key figure and leader in the England side and if England has dreams on advancing further in the competition, Maguire’s presence will become a key factor.
