Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood adds extra security to his mansion after his release on bail amidst allegations

Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood have been in the news for all the wrong reasons for the last couple of days and have added extra security to his mansion after he was released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of of rape, assault, threats to kill and sexual assault. However the 20 year-old was released on bail on Tuesday with the police to continue investigating the accusations. 

As reported by The Sun, two security guards have been posted outside the house while a technician arrived to install a home security set-up. Greenwood will not return to training and will be out of the squad till further notice. However the youngster will continue to earn his £75,000-per-week wage pending the outcome of the investigation. The police statement read “A 20 year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.”

The Greater Manchester Police also confirmed that Greenwood is receiving special support from Manchester United in terms of security as extra staff was provided to his second home where his parents lived following his arrest. United have also taken down Mason Greenwood merchandise from the official website and stores. Nike has also suspended their deal with Mason Greenwood releasing a statement “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy was accused of as many as six rape allegations in 2021 which saw his imprisoned and his Manchester City contract terminated. However the French international was recently released on bail but was instructed to live at the registered address and was strictly prohibited to contact the victims. It will be the second time that the 20-year-old will be accused of such allegations, first being with Phil Foden during their first England call-up in 2020.
