Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, declined to comment on the rumoured acquisition of Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro and was unable to say whether Cristiano Ronaldo would remain with the team when the transfer market closed. After agreeing to personal terms with the club, the 30-year-old Casemiro has been acquired by United for €60 million.

When questioned one more about Cristiano Ronaldo, the Dutchman reacted strongly. “I don’t know why he’s a particular focus after Saturday,” he complained. “It was the team performance, the whole team’s attitude, including Ronaldo. He’s in our plans, that’s what I can say.”

Earlier this week, Ronaldo left a comment on an Instagram post stating that he would soon expose “the truth” regarding his predicament. The 37-year-statement to “two weeks” was taken to relate to the window’s September 1 closing date. Ten Hag has publicly expressed his willingness to let Ronaldo leave United and join a Champions League team for a number of weeks.

Ronaldo, who has a contract with United through next year and the possibility of an additional year, is wanted by co-chairman Joel Glazer. United, which is now in last place in the Premier League after being destroyed 4-0 by Brentford the previous week, will host Liverpool on Monday night at Old Trafford.

With Darwin Nunez suspended and a number of injury concerns, Liverpool drew their opening matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace, but United supporters are frightened after Jurgen Klopp’s team humiliated United 5-0 and 4-0 last season.

Ten Hag claimed that after United’s players were humiliated by Brentford, it had not been difficult to inspire them. “It all starts with you. Work hard, as hard as you can, as a team, and obey the laws and principles. If you do that, you’ll gain confidence. “It’s not difficult to motivate this team because my experience with them is they work really good on the training pitch.”
