Newcastle United close in on Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier for a fee around £25m
January transfer window is officially and all the clubs across Europe will look to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and potentially achieve their ambitions for the season. However it will be a busy transfer window for the relegation battling Newcastle United as they look to make Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier their first signing of the new era after the takeover was completed in October 2021.
The Premier League club are looking to seal the deal by the end of this week. The La Liga champions rejected the initial bid, however reports suggests that Trippier is expected to sign for Newcastle for a fee around £25m. Reports also suggest that the the club from the North-East are looking to make a minimum of four signings in this transfer window with head coach Eddie Howe looking to strengthen the squad to fight relegation.
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone also had his say on Trippier making a move back to Premier League. The Argentine international said that he has given up hope of trying to convince Kieran Trippier to stay but it is hard to keep players if they decide to leave.
“Kieran Trippier is an extraordinary footballer who has given us a lot and we will try to keep him. We want him to stay, he’s an important player, but nowadays, when a player wants to leave, you can’t force them to stay. You can’t retain them.” said the Atletico Madrid manager.
Lille’s Sven Botman and Arsenal outcast Aubameyang also potential transfer targets for Newcastle United
Newcastle United have seen a bid rejected by Lille for 21 year-old Dutch international Sven Botman as Lille reluctant on selling the centre-back as he is an important figure for their league and Champions League aspirations. After a fallout with Mikel Arteta, former Arsenal captain Aubameyang is on a lookout for a new club and with Callum Wilson out with a long-term injury Aubameyang could definitely become the main man at Newcastle United.
It will be an exciting next few days at Newcastle as they try to sign a couple of players. Who do you think should Newcastle United sign to survive in the Premier League this season ?
