The footballing world has been struck with heartbreaking news following the passing of 17-year-old Naomi Mendoza. Earlier last month, the player collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital in the Canary Islands. However, Naomi succumbed to her disease and lost her life after 3 weeks in a coma. Naomi was suffering from Meningitis which was the reason for her demise.

The 17-year-old was not only a wonderful goalkeeper, but also a good human being, read condolences which poured in from all sides. A statement read, “We will always keep your smile. Your improvement. Your desire to live.” Following her sad demise, La Liga club Las Palmas, based in the Canary Islands has released a message in condolence for the player.

As a professional and an athlete, Naomi was a devoted and focused individual. Her untimely death has come as a news of shock to the fans and to her friends and family. Her battle with Meningitis also serves as a reminder that it affects the young population as well.

Another club, Union Viera, also in the Canary Islands region, has released a statement that read, “Her demise shocked all of Canary Islands Football.” Valencia CF have also offered their condolences to the player’s family. Even the Spanish FA released a pic of the juniors mourning Naomi before their morning training.

Naomi Mendoza was the Goalkeeper for the under-17 Canary Islands National team. She also played for a club named Guiniguada who have paid tribute to their former player. Naomi was a spirited individual, and the messages of condolences prove the same. The comments read, “We will always keep your smile. Your improvement. Your desire to live.”

The club has announced that they intend to cancel all training today as the club goes into mourning the death of their star keeper. A local media outlet, CN8, said that Canary football has lost a wonderful talent, destined for greatness. They called her an “Exemplary player, a football lover and a wonderful partner.” She was a true talent and has inspired and motivated many through her performances on the pitch.

Naomi Mendoza will forever be in the hearts and memories of those who knew her. Devastating as it is, the whole football community mourns the unexpected and untimely death of a promising young talent who was destined for greatness.
