According to AS, Real Madrid are anticipating that PSG will demand a transfer fee of €200 million for their highly rated forward, Kylian Mbappe, in the ongoing transfer window. The forward’s contract with PSG is scheduled to expire in 2024, and he has made it clear that he does not wish to extend his stay and leave the club as a free agent.

Real Madrid however cannot afford to pay both the humongous transfer fee and match Kylian Mbappe’s wages. Therefore one of the involved parties needs to compromise to make the transfer happen. The other option will be to sign him for free next season after the end of his contract.

However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi made it abundantly clear on Wednesday that there is no possibility of Mbappe leaving the club without a fee. He emphasized that the 24-year-old attacker will either need to renew his contract or depart from PSG this summer.

If Kylian Mbappe becomes available for transfer, there is a strong expectation that he will leave in the current transfer window itself, although he might also fight to seek the loyalty bonus that he would be owed by PSG next year.

In that scenario, Real Madrid appears to be the likeliest destination for the French superstar. Real Madrid has been pursuing the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner for years, and they came close to signing him last year when Mbappe’s contract was expiring. However, a gargantuan deal tabled by PSG and the signing of Lionel Messi persuaded him to stay another season. PSG’s inability to win the Champions League is believed to be hindering Mbappe’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, which Mbappe would like to win to realize full potential.

Real Madrid are looking to build their new side with younger players. The club has a history of signing well-known stars famously known as ‘The Galacticos’. However, the club has moved on from that strategy.

After winning their third successive Champions League title in 2018, Los Blancos faced the harsh reality of their aging team. That’s when they decided to invest in younger stars, buying Brazilian duo Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo. Both signings have been successful.

Since then, the club have started to sell their older players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro, Gareth Bale, Isco, Keylor Navas, Raphael Varane, Karim Benzema, and Sergio Ramos. Instead, they are replacing them with younger players like Vinicius, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchoumeni, Endrick, Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham with many others expected. The strategy has already started reaping it’s rewards as they won the Champions League again in 2022 with a mix of older and younger players.
