5 players who are expected to join Barcelona this summer
Xavi’s plan at Barcelona is taking shape already, leaving many excited about what’s to come in the future. The former midfielder has done exceptionally well to build a team around young players while retaining the services of some of the wise heads and bringing in selected talents at exceptional deals, thus creating a unique combination of experience and youthful exuberance.
Barcelona, though, is bracing themselves for a busy summer ahead, as coach Xavi looks to filter his squad further. As the defense and attack have been a big part of Barcelona’s bad form this season, they will be looking to bring in a right-sided defender as well as a replacement for Ousmane Dembele who is expected to leave after there has been no progress in his contract negotiations with Barca.
They will also look to bring in a world-class striker who can somehow treat their goalscoring problems after half the attack was out with injuries at one point or another this season.
Let us take now take a look at the top 5 players expected to join FC Barcelona this summer
5. Raphinha
Barcelona is ready to push through a deal for Leeds star Raphinha but has held back in talks until the end of the season, 90min has been informed. The Brazilian is set to leave Elland Road at the end of the campaign regardless of whether United avoids relegation or not. If they do go down, a release clause worth just £25m will come into effect. The final PL matchday is yet to be played at the time of writing.
It is understood that Raphinha desires a move to Barcelona, but he remains interested in some of Leeds’ current Premier League rivals, including West Ham, Arsenal, and Tottenham.
The probability of transfer is approximately 65%.
4. Cesar Azpilicueta
He is Barcelona’s major target on the right flank. The club admires the Chelsea captain not only because of his ability, but also his leadership. The 32-year-old has reportedly reached an agreement with Barça to join on a free transfer on a three-year deal, but there are still important details to be worked out with the defender’s current club.
He had obtained word from the Chelsea brass that the West Londoners wouldn’t trigger an automatic 12-month extension, but the change in ownership affected that and the Blues triggered that extension. Now Barcelona must pay some kind of fee and looking at their finances, that might be unlikely.
Therefore, looking at everything, the probability for this transfer is approximately 75%.
3. Franck Kessie
Midfielder Franck Kessié will reportedly join Barcelona on a free transfer this summer after agreeing on a four-year contract with the La Liga club, according to reputed football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Ivorian, whose contract at Milan is set to expire at the end of the season, had already reached a verbal agreement with Barça in March. Kessié has reportedly signed a deal with Xavi’s side until June 2026 and will receive a net annual salary of €6.5m (£5.4m), not including bonuses.
Kessié, who joined Milan from Atalanta on an initial loan deal in 2017 and has made more than 200 appearances for the current Serie A leaders, completed his medical back in March and is expected to be announced as a Barça player imminently after the season is over and the transfer window begins.
Transfer probability is 99%.
2. Andreas Christensen
Andreas Christensen’s move to Barcelona this summer is now a ‘done deal’, according to reports. The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is now on the verge of a move to Spain once his deal expires at Stamford Bridge.
Christensen was in contract extension talks with Chelsea last summer, but despite the Blues believing they had an agreement, demands changed and now the Denmark international is heading for the exit doors.
It is believed that the Danish star has secured a lucrative five-year contract with the Spanish giants, which will pay him £21million across five seasons. His wages after joining the Catalan club will be around £4.2m per season – or £80,000 per week.
Transfer probability is 90%.
1. Robert Lewandowski
Barcelona seems to be edging closer and closer to the capture of Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski in the upcoming transfer window. The 33-year-old has emerged as a priority target for Barcelona and the striker himself is keen on joining the Blaugrana as he wishes to test himself in a league at a new club after having won everything at the Allianz Arena.
With his contract expiring in 2023, Lewandowski has made it clear he does not wish to sign an extension, much to the chagrin of Bayern Munich, who remain firm on their stance that he will not be sold, although privately, they are preparing for his departure.
And, there now seems to be a fresh development in the transfer saga, as Diario AS reports that Lewandowski and Barcelona have reached an agreement over a contract for the 33-year-old hitman. As per the update, Barça will be offering the Poland captain a three-year deal worth €9 million per year.
Transfer probability is 75%.
