5 top-quality players who will be leaving Manchester United this summer

5 top-quality players who will be leaving Manchester United this summer

Manchester United is in critical need of rebuilding in this summer’s transfer window, and it will begin with the departure of several key players. As their contracts expire, a handful of those famous players may be able to go on free transfers.

After a disastrous season in which United failed to win a trophy, had mediocre results, and experienced full chaos off the field, the reconstruction is badly required. In recent years, the club’s player recruiting has been highly criticized, as bad heavy expenditure has led to an uneven, aging roster with a hefty salary bill.

With Erik Ten Hag due to take over as manager at the conclusion of the season and current interim manager Ralf Rangnick ready to go into a consultative role, it’s evident that the next manager will want a complete overhaul of the team.

5 potential departures from the Manchester United squad:

5. Jesse Lingard

After a successful loan period at West Ham, Lingard appeared destined to leave Old Trafford last summer, but Manchester United turned down proposals from the London club.  Despite their choice to keep the English player, United’s management hasn’t given him many chances in the 2021-22 season.

Lingard has spent the last year of his contract on the bench after another unsuccessful exit in January, while United missed out on a potentially lucrative transfer price last summer. It’s no surprise he’s frustrated after only making one Premier League start this season.

4. Juan Mata

Juan Mata, one of the kindest people in football, appears to be on his way out of United, nine years after joining from Chelsea. Despite not being a consistent starter for several years, the 33-year-old has stayed at the team under six different coaches. Mata’s three-year stint at Chelsea is remembered more than his nine-year stint at United, which pretty much wraps it up.

His time at the Old Trafford hasn’t really been the best of his career. He has made 196 appearances for the Red Devils scoring 34 goals. During his time at Manchester, he has won the UEFA Europa League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and the Community Shield.

3. Edinson Cavani

Cavani was offered a contract extension by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a great debut season at United in which he scored 17 goals in all competitions. The extension has been a complete failure. The 34-year-old has only made six league starts this season due to injury, scoring only twice, and some supporters have questioned his devotion to the team.

Cavani’s starting place as a striker was jeopardized by the summer arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, and having two veterans on large contracts vying for one position sums up United’s bad decision-making.  El Matador has confirmed that he will leave the club this summer and said goodbye to the Old Trafford crowd.

2. Paul Pogba

Since leaving Juventus and returning to Old Trafford in an £89 million transfer in 2016, United’s record acquisition has proved divisive in midfield. Paul Pogba has never been shy about his devotion to Manchester United. He’s never come out and declared he’ll return United to their rightful place in the league.

Despite scoring in the 2017 Europa League final and being named to the PFA Team of the Year in 2018-19, analysts and fans have always had mixed feelings about Pogba, who is generally referred to be a luxury player. There is a strong possibility that the 29-year-old will sign a new deal, but he may prefer a fresh start elsewhere and has been connected with free transfers to Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

1. Nemanja Matic

The former Chelsea defensive midfielder I said to be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season. He is already 33 years old and ETH will certainly look to replace him with a young midfielder like Declan Rice.

The Serbian international will reportedly leave Old Trafford after his five-year spell. He has made 189 appearances for the red Devils in his five years at the club.
