“€500 million in negative capital”- FC Barcelona’s Vice President opens up about the club’s financial crisis

FC Barcelona vice president Eduard Romeu estimates that a total of €500 million will be necessary to rescue the club from its current predicament. The Blaugrana are in dire financial straits, to the point that they seem unable to enroll two new signings due to a lack of finances.
Although free transfers for AC Milan midfielder Andreas Christensen and Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen have been already completed, the club’s debt has now surpassed €1 billion.
To meet La Liga’s wage limit requirements, star players like Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Gerard Pique had to take pay cuts, while others like Antoine Griezmann, Emerson Royal, Junior Firpo, and Miralem Pjanic were transferred in an attempt to balance the books.
FC Barcelona Vice President speaks about the club’s financial turmoil:

Romeu has spoken out about Barca’s financial condition, estimating that half a billion euros is required to get them back on track.
According to The Athletic, he told the Spanish publication Sport, “The figure inflicting the most harm is asset imbalance. The €500 million in negative capital. If we don’t do anything, we might lose another €150 million this season. As I have stated, if someone wants to offer me €500 million, that is what we require to preserve Barca.”
In October, it was alleged that Barcelona owed £98 million in transfer fees for four players, despite the fact that the Catalan club had already paid €8 million to a scout located in South America.
In July, the club will begin a hefty four-year €280 million sponsorship contract with Spotify, which will include the Swedish company’s emblem on shirts and training gear, as well as the renaming of Barcelona’s historic stadium to the ‘Spotify Camp Nou.’
The La Liga heavyweights have recently allowed supporters to play on the field and even get married at their stadium for a price, causing rival fans to mock them. Barcelona is expected to sell one of its major stars this summer, with Frenkie de Jong, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, being one of the key contenders.
Barcelona is in financial problems, and it was recently revealed that in order to balance the books, they must create revenue of about €500 million (£425 million) by June 30.
Aside from the marriages, Barca is also giving fans the opportunity to play on their field. Fans may pay €300 apiece to play for an hour at the Nou Camp between June 6 and June 11. For a cost of €30, friends and family may also watch.
