PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma‘s return to the San Siro failed to live up to the heartwarming expectations of a return to his former club, AC Milan. The 24-year-old goalkeeper left the Italian giants to join PSG back in 2021. However, as PSG made the journey to Milan, Donnarumma was put in an awkward situation as the home fans expressed their distaste at his departure 2 years ago.
As the player made his way to the goalpost, videos show AC Milan fans ‘making it rain’ with fake bank notes and rolls of cash. A closer inspection of the notes shows that the face has been replaced by a picture of Donnarumma and labeled ‘Dollarumma’.
The note also mentions ‘Ultras AC Milan’ at the bottom. As Donnarumma was busy picking up the rolls of cash and fake notes from his post, PSG captain Kylian Mbappe couldn’t help but see the funny side of it all.
The cameras noticed a surprised Kylian Mbappe in the middle of the pitch. He was seen sporting a subtle smirk on his face as he looked around the pitch, as well as a Donnarumma who was struggling to pick up the fake cash thrown by the fans.
PSG fall to second place after 2nd defeat in Group F
The Parisiens have not failed to qualify from the group stages in recent times in the UEFA Champions League. PSG were drawn into the “group of death” this season, and are battling it out with Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United, and AC Milan. After a good start to their season with a win against Dortmund, losses against Newcastle and AC Milan put the Parisiens 2nd in their group.
The game against Milan on Tuesday saw a frustrated PSG side fall to the hosts in a hostile San Siro. The visitors took the lead in just 9 minutes through Milan Skriniar. He punished the Milan defense for leaving him unmarked in the area as he headed home from close range. The home side quickly pulled one back after Rafael Leão’s spectacular overhead kick went past Donnarumma at 11 minutes.
Ousmane Dembele’s shot ricocheted off the crossbar before Olivier Giroud won it for the hosts. The comeback was complete in the second half when Giroud leaped over Skriniar to head home a sublime cross, swept in by Theo Hernandez. Following the game, PSG fell to 2nd, while Milan sit 3rd in Group F.
