The World Cup winner and Ballon d’Or 2023 forerunner, Lionel Messi has been the brand ambassador of Adidas since the beginning of his career. Together the two high-profile marketing maestros have failed to maximise each other’s potential due to the completion of other athletes in the sporting world. The relationship between Adidas and Messi has only strengthened over the years after the Argentine forward signed a lifetime contract in 2017.
Registering Messi as not just one of the best players on the planet, but literally someone whose talents are out of the world, Adidas has released a new campaign. The video shared by the German sporting company is too hard to believe as it creates history putting Messi on a pedestal with one of the biggest sports personalities ever.
They have released a massive billboard in ‘outer space’ with Messi’s face and new shoes tagging him along the line of being ‘out worldly‘ very literally. The name of their new product in collaboration with Messi called ‘XCRAZYFAST is also showcased in the video.
The inquisitive video showcases Messi venturing into space as he expresses his desire to always travel there. He wears a mouthpiece and headphones like a NASA scientist and guides the launch of Adidas’ latest football cleats which were white/red in colour. Messi and Addidas continue to create new and improved advertisements but if they can reach the heights of Nike and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of their brand marketability will always be a question.
Lionel Messi’s former teammate picks his Ballon d’Or winner
Former French football legend, Thierry Henry, has thrown his weight behind his ex-teammate, Lionel Messi, for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award. Messi, who played a pivotal role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup victory and continues to excel at Paris Saint-Germain, is seen as one of the leading contenders for the prestigious football accolade.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has even suggested that Messi is expected to clinch the award, with the official announcement due on October 30. Henry, who shared the pitch with Messi during their time at Barcelona, firmly believes that the 36-year-old superstar deserves the Ballon d’Or if he secures it.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Henry acknowledged Messi’s World Cup triumph, emphasizing the significance of his performance, even though the final result was a disappointment for the Frenchman.
Henry’s endorsement of Messi places him ahead of other notable candidates like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Messi’s exceptional contributions in leading Argentina to World Cup glory, including winning the Golden Ball, have solidified his claim to the title. If Messi secures the Ballon d’Or, it will mark his eighth, further underscoring his status as one of the greatest footballers in history.
