During training, Al-Nassr players had a playful moment. Otavio, the Portuguese midfielder, playfully chipped a penalty past his Colombian teammate, David Ospina, who, in good humor, chased after him.
Otavio recently joined Al-Nassr from FC Porto during the summer transfer window for an undisclosed fee. He has made more than 10 appearances this season and scored twice in the games. This happened before their match against Al-Duhail in the AFC Champions League.
Al-Nassr will play against Al-Duhail on October 24th in the AFC Champions League at Al-Awwal Park. They are the favorites, being the leaders of their group. The Riyadh-based club won their last match 3-1 against FC Istiklol.
On the other hand, Al-Duhail hasn’t won any games in this competition and lost their recent match to Persepolis. They are looking to Philippe Coutinho, their star signing, to boost their attack. However, facing Al-Nassr’s frontline of Talisca, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Sadio Mane might be a tough challenge for them. It’s worth noting that Al-Duhail hasn’t scored a goal in the AFC Champions League yet.
Al-Nassr fought several clubs for Otavio’s signature
Following a disappointing end to the 2022/23 campaign for Al-Nassr which saw them finish 2nd in the Saudi Pro League to Al-Ittihad, the signings which followed showcased a real sign of intent from the club to win trophies. While stars such as Sadio Mane and Marcelo Brozovic stole the headline, the signing of Otavio was left relatively quiet.
Winning the Portuguese league thrice in his career, the player was awarded ‘Primeira Liga Player of the Season’ for the 2022/23 campaign. Clubs such as Liverpool, Aston Villa and Inter Milan had all shown signs in signing the player. However, it was Al-Nassr’s reported €60 Million that won the player’s signature at the end, signing a contract that keeps him at the club till 2026.
Otavio, 28 years old, since his arrival has not missed a single league game for the club showcasing the manager’s faith in the player. Playing a minimum of 60 minutes each time he steps onto the pitch, Otavio has proven himself to be an immense signing for the club.
