Almeria were close to winning their first game of the season, but Real came through!

After failing to challenge for the title in the 2022/23 La Liga season, where they fell 10 points behind FC Barcelona, Real Madrid began a great challenge for the title. Halfway through the season, their biggest challenge is Girona FC. Unfortunately, Girona have gotten the upper hand as Real Madrid struggle against UD Almeria.
Hosting Almeria, who are currently bottom of the league, managed to get a 2-0 lead over Los Blancos by half-time. Conceding a goal in the first minute, Real Madrid started trailing right away. Their problems increased when Edgar Gonzalez scored a wonder goal just before the end of the first half.
Starting an attack in the 42nd minute, a cross to a Girona attacker fell to Nacho. Failing to clear it, the ball went to Edgar Gonzalez. Deciding to take a risk, the midfielder took a volley from 25 yards out and beat Kepa Arriabalaga.
Being 2-0 down at halftime, Real Madrid won the game by completing the comeback. Jude Bellingham scored a penalty in the 57th minute after a handball by Kaiky Fernandes. A few minutes later Almeria managed to score their 3rd goal but was ruled out as Bellingham was fouled in the build-up.
Vinicius Jr. scored a controversial goal just minutes, as the ball had gone into the net after hitting his shoulder, but the Almeria players claimed it hit his hand. Madrid worked hard for a goal for the next 30 minutes but couldn’t find the net. The closest they came was when Jude Bellingham managed a bicycle kick but missed the goal by a foot. They finally scored in the 99th minute as Dani Carvajal headed Los Blancos to the top of the table.

Fans heavily praised Edgar Gonzalez’s brilliant volley to get his team the lead. Many fans believed it was enough to beat Real Madrid, but were caught off-guard as the hosts completed their incredible comeback. Some fans called out the club as they believed Madrid robbed a win from Almeria.

With this win, Real Madrid go to the top of the table, with a lead of two games. Luckily for Girona, they can still retain their top spot if they beat Sevilla.
