Alvaro Morata SLAMS Luis Rubiales over ‘unacceptable’ Kissgate, offers support to Jenni Hermoso

In light of the recent ‘kiss scandal’ involving RFEF President Luis Rubiales and Spanish Women’s National team player Jenni Hermoso, the Men’s National team has come forward in support of the player, while also condemning Rubiales’ actions.
The Spanish World Cup celebrations were marred by Rubiales’ actions. The President kissed the player on the lips without consent during the award ceremony. Following the incident, FIFA temporarily suspended Rubiales for an initial period of 90 days. Disallowing him from participating in any football-related activity.
Recently, the Spanish Men’s National team came forward and released a statement in support of Hermoso. Rodri, Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, and César Azpilicueta appeared before the press. Morata read out the statement in front of the Media in which it was mentioned that the players strongly condemn the actions of President Rubiales. Further, the statement read, “His actions do not align with the institution he represents.”
The statement demanded recognition of the Women team’s achievement in winning the World Cup. Morata continued reading the statement urging to stand with the “values of the sport.” Since the incident, this is the first statement of its nature in support of Jenni Hermoso. Lastly, the 4 players emphasized on the fact that their presence is representative of the whole men’s squad.

Jorge Vilda sacked amidst Rubiales scandal
World Cup-winning coach Jorge Vilda is sacked! The Spanish FA announced that Vilda will no longer be part of the team while also announcing his successor. A member of Vilda’s coaching staff, Montse Tome has been named as the new Head Coach of the Women’s National team. The FA thanked the World Cup-winning manager, lauding his contributions on and off the pitch, while recognizing his contributions to Spain’s legacy at the World Cup.
Jorge Vilda took charge of the team in 2015, Coaching 108 games, and winning 75. He also led the team to the quarter-finals of the Euros in the year 2017. Jorge Vilda was a known confidant of Luis Rubiales. He was also seen repeatedly applauding the President during his general assembly statement when he declared that he would not resign. Following the scandal, a majority of Vilda’s coaching staff resigned alongside several players refusing to play until Rubiales was removed from his position.
