Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana just cannot seem to evade the trolls and criticism thrown at him. The Cameroonian keeper was ‘torn apart’ for his late arrival at AFCON. The United #24 saw his flight get delayed, forcing him to sit out his side’s opener against Guinea on Monday. However, his ill-fated experiences did not end there, as a 3-1 loss to Senegal leaves Cameroon on the verge of elimination.

Cameroon have endured a disastrous start to their AFCON campaign, which kicked off with a 1-1 draw against Guinea. Andre Onana however, returned to the starting line-up as his side took on the ‘mighty’ Senegal, led by Sadio Mane. The Indomitable Lions were no match for Mane and Co., who comfortably dispatched their opponents in a 3-1 win. Moreover, the win ensures that Senegal remains top of their group.

Cameroon on the other hand, risked group-stage elimination, after managing to pick up just a single point in their first 2 games. With their last group stage game set to kick off on the 23rd against Gambia, not even a win will ensure qualification.

Their future depends on results elsewhere, as 2nd place Guinea is on 4 points. Anything other than a loss for them against Senegal would mean that Cameroon is disqualified.

Fans laugh at Andre Onana for ‘risking it all’ to get ‘eliminated’ in group stage

Andre Onana and Co. now risk elimination in the group stage in AFCON. The United goalkeeper delayed his arrival to the Cameroon camp so that he could play United’s game against Tottenham on 14th January. A fan commented that if Cameroon does end up getting eliminated, he will become the last to arrive and also the first to leave.

Comments poured in after Cameroon’s loss, with a fan commenting that Onana has a habit of setting new records. Unfortunately, they’re records that no one else wants to claim. Supporters mocked Onana for thinking that he could pull off something only possible in a video game. Some even asked Onana to not return to Manchester United after his side is eventually knocked out of the competition.

Many others found it hilarious that he conceded three goals in his first game back for the National team. Some said that he wanted to ensure that his team got eliminated to play the game against Newport County on Sunday. While Cameroon’s fate does not rest in their own hands, Manchester United are also far from where they want to be. The club are out of Europe and 7th in the Premier League.
